Ecstatic is a modern word for an ancient practice.
Throughout millennia humans have always gathered to DANCE!
Dance is a way to move stuck energy, to heal, to process, to play, to pray and to strength bonds between community members. Join us, once again, as we continue practicing the ancient art of community DANCE.
Yes. Earthshake is FUN, and that can be enough; but it is also a way to change our lives and change our world. Set aside your screen, shake off your conditioning, and abandon every story that ever told you to be small or quiet. Rekindle the connection this world attempted to train out of you. Reclaim your wildness and reclaim your humanity in our sober, free-form dance temple.
As long as you are respecting the container, listening to the music and listening to your body, there is no right or wrong way to participate in ecstatic dance.
You can spend the entire evening rolling on the floor like a bug, or you can become a thunderstorm purging decades of thunder. You can learn to listen to your body and practice moving your limbs the way a musician practices their notes on an instrument. You can reclaim your childlike wonder, or access your deep inner fire to change the world. Whatever you need, this container exists to help you evolve and come back into balance with your body and your truth.
What is ecstatic dance?
Community Care 101:
The only rule is respect:
Respect for yourself.
Respect for your fellow dancers.
And respect for the space.
If it is your first time participating in ecstatic dance, please arrive at 8pm for a gentle introduction into our dance floor culture. In order for Earthshake to continue being the most potent space that it can be, it is crucial all guest practice deep listening and consent. Put simply: Always ask before entering into anyone else’s personal bubble, or allowing them into your own. Always receive a clear ‘Yes’ from another before engaging in a close or physical dance, and always receive a clear ‘yes’ from YOURSELF before entering or invite others into your personal space. And always respect a ‘no’. Dedication to this simple principal is what has allowed Earthshake to continue growing and flourishing for 6 years. Thank you to all of our guests for being such excellent stewards of safety. Refusal to respect consent will result in removal from the space.
Other basics are: Bare feet (except specialized dance shows). Drink water. Keep conversation OFF of the dance floor, in the lobby. Yes, you can make sounds and sing, but please only speak if it is for safety or consent. Leave the studio better than you found it, and dont hesitate to contact a host or organizer if you need support :)
All guests must sign a mandatory safety waiver before entering the dance space.
Since dance one, Earthshake has been proud to feature a shared, community, potluck-style ‘Abundance Table’ in our lobby!!! Please bring anything that you have in abundance to share with the community. Usually, this is for: Extra apples from your orchard, overflow vegetables from your garden, baked goods, treat, and even snow cones! It can also include book, cloths, tools or anything of value that you would like to pass on to our beloved community. Please just bring any non-edible treasure back home with you if they have not been adopted by the tome you leave the dance :)

No one is ever turned away for lack of funds,. If you WANT to join us but money is the limiting factor, please send us a note in advance and come anyway. We want you with us!
However, if you can sign on for a work trade, it is a fabulous way to support the event, exchange alternative value and get to cultivate deeper relationships with the behind-the-scenes crew who keep Earthshake alive.
Every month we need 1-2 people for setup support,
1-2 people for breakdown support,
and 3 door shifts, if any are still available!
