Proper spacing. Proper plant selection for your site. Longer-management plan. Throughout protection for every tree. Don;t try to tackle more than you can manage. Start smaller, and expand as you first phase succeeds. Create relationships with local park management team if you are growing on public land. Tackle aggressive plants early on. Choose disease resistant species. Invite your neighbors. Have fun. Share your success with the world….. The purpose of the Newtown Fruit Trail was ALWAYS to multiply. Yes. On its own, the Newtown fruit Trail offers tremendous value and tremendous benefits to the world, but it is also a living model, intended for other communities to replicate and improve upon, and, to help open the doors for approval in other communities who may need to see proof that the model works.
It works. After 10 years or dedicated management, the fruit trail is a living vision of our original designs: (see article) -
it is not perfect but it still makes a difference: because ti is such an early model. every ‘mistake’ at the fruit trail delivers potent, valuable lessons for the next project to succeed.
